Welcome to the Year 3 page!
As we enter the final half term of the current school year, the children in Year 3 are becoming more independent learners. They need to continue working hard throughout these important weeks to further develop their skills and achieve their targets.
This webpage is here to keep you up to date and in the know about what is happening in Year 3.
If you have any questions or issues about any aspect of your child’s learning please do not hesitate to contact me.
Photographs of Year 3 involved in activities from all areas of the curriculum can be viewed on this web page. As you can see, the children enjoy being fully involved in all aspects of school life.
'I came so that you may have life - and have it to the full'
First Holy Communion
Congratulations to all the children who received Holy Communion for the first time on Sunday 28th June
We were all extremely proud of them as they welcomed Jesus into their hearts with understanding and reverence.
A huge thank you to Father Michael and the Parishioners
God bless the children as they now continue on their journey of faith as full members of the Catholic Church.
Please keep them all in your prayers
Thank you to the parents and families of the children for their love and support throughout this special year.
In Confirmation we receive:
Give us the strength to 'open' these gifts and so produce the fruits of your love.
The May Crowning, 2015
The Pupil Chaplains led our celebrations with prayers in honour of Mary, Our Mother. Seraya and Freddie (members of our Sacraments class) crowned the statue of Our Lady as the whole school sang hymns of praise and thanksgiving. Year 3 led the school as we said prayers from the Rosary and Year 6 led the beautiful, traditional prayer:
Hail Holy Queen
Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy,
Hail our life, our sweetness and our hope.
To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve;
to thee do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this vale of tears.
Turn then, most gracious advocate,
thine eyes of mercy toward us;
and after this our exile,
show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
He is Risen !
Well done to ALL the children in Year 3.
The Easter Story was told with love and understanding by the Sacraments class, as they acted out the events of Holy Week in this years Easter Play.
Thank you to parents, parishioners, staff and pupils for their support.
The wonderful play 'Master and Servant' was enjoyed by Years 3 and 4. It encouraged the children to explore and reflect on what it means to
serve and be served by others.
It helped us to consider how Jesus, the servant king, showed us the way to love one another with compassion and understanding.
On Holy Thursday night, the apostles were ready to eat the Passover feast with the Lord, when he surprised them by kneeling before them to wash the dust of the road from their feet. He did this to show that He came to love and serve his people and to show us how to love others.
As Christians we are to follow his example:
Love one another, as I have loved you.
Congratulations to all the Year 3 children who have received the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time.
The children were reverent and respectful throughout. I would like to thank all parents/guardians for supporting and encouraging their children to make a good confession.
“The most precious result of the forgiveness obtained in the Sacrament of Penance is to be found in the reconciliation with God which takes place in the innermost heart of a son who was lost and is found again.”
Saint John Paul II
Year 3 enjoy weekly Italian lessons in which Maestra Alessandra uses a variety of activities including music and art to broaden the children's knowledge of the Italian language. They now have vocabulary that they can use confidently both verbally and in written work.
In this Italian lesson we learnt not only Italian vocabulary but also all about ingredients, quantities, instructions and traditional Italian cooking.
Thank you Maestra Alessandra
Look at our Art work in the style of Kandinsky.
The children have been exploring his work and were impressed by the paintings and the classical music that inspired him.
The children have been learning about the Sacraments of Initiation.
Here you can see them acting out the Sacrament of Baptism. This role play helped them to develop a deeper understanding of the Sacrament that welcomes us into the family of the church, as children of God.
Preparing to receive the Sacraments
Year Three is a very special school year, full of discovery and celebration for the children and their families.
During this year you are invited to present your child to receive the Sacraments of the Church - Reconciliation, Confirmation and Holy Communion - as Catholics have done for the last 2000 years.
Each of the Sacraments is a gift from God and a source of strength and grace for your child throughout their life.
You will find all the relevant dates in the Key Information section of our website.
The Holy Rosary
We would like to thank Sister Cecily for leading our prayers each week during October, the month of the Rosary. The Chaplains came along to encourage and support the younger children as we remembered the mysteries of the Rosary.
A Visit from the Fire Service
The fire brigade came to talk to the staff and children about Bonfire night and advised us on how best to stay safe whilst enjoying the events and displays at this time of year.
The children were also given the opportunity to see a real fire engine and discuss with fire fighters the equipment used to put out fires and rescue people. It was an excellent insight into this vital service.
