Year 2

Welcome to Year 2!

Welcome to Year 2's class page! Year 2 have settled well into their new class and are working very hard. We have an exciting year planned at St. Joseph's and we cannot wait to continue making lots of memories with your child and to ‘have life and have it to the full’  as our Mission Statement promises.
This page will be filled with our class news, photographs of the different and exciting activities we are taking part in in class and around school! If there are any useful website links or anything else you would like on this page, just let us know and we can get that sorted for you.

Everyone had a fabulous day at school for World Book Day! Year 2 looked fantastic in all their different costumes. Thank you for making such a great effort.

The day CBeebies came to visit...

Key Stage 1 had a great afternoon learning all about Chinese New Year! We all took part making different crafts, such as chinese lanterns, bookmarks, lucky red envelopes and monkeys. Afterwards we went into the hall to try lots of different chinese food and listened to lovely chinese music.

This week Year 2 have been learning all about division. We have learnt that we can work out division questions by sharing out objects. Year 2 have had a great time working out the answers using smarties and cups!

Year 2 have really impressed us this morning with how much they can remember about 3D shapes and their properties. Here they are using sticks and marshmallows to make their own shapes...they did a fantastic job as you can see!

Year 2 had a fantastic time helping to make a lovely wishing willow tree for the school. Here they are making their wishes!

We have a very cheeky visitor staying with us over the month of December - Dash the Elf has joined us all the way from the North Pole! He has got up to all sorts of mischief, such as hanging toilet roll around our classroom and inviting Father Christmas' reindeers to school for a party!

Year 2 enjoyed a trip to Tesco to take part in their Farm to Fork Project. They had a great time finding different fruits and vegetables, sampling different cheese and handling various seafood!

Year 2 have paired up with Year 1 this half term and together have created, and are continuing to create, a beautiful Prayer Garden for our Infant playground. We have all been busy painting bunting with pictures of God's Wonderful World, painting flower pots and planting flowers and bulbs in them. We have also made a minibeast hotel so we can look after God's creatures.

Term 1 Homework Grid

Homework is very important at St. Joseph's and Year 2 have already made a fantastic start. Look at some of the creations our creative class have made so far!

As you will know Manchester United are here this half term to teach Year 2 lots of new ball skills. They are having a great time learning from the wonderful coaches.

In English we have been busy being authors! We have been reading the much loved book 'On the way home' by Jill Murphy and the children have been busy planning their own versions of the story. I am very impressed with their imaginative ideas and cannot wait to read their finished books and share them with you.

Take an Accelerated Reader quiz at home or show your parents all the books you have read on your own bookshelf.
