Year 4

Welcome to Year 4's class page!

This page will be filled with our class news, pictures of all our learning fun, things to come later in the year, and so much more. If you have any exciting things you would like to add, let me know!

Miss Chappell

Here is the Summer Two homework grid. Homework books will be given out on the first day back but if you would like to get a head start over the holiday you are more than welcome. Enjoy your break!

Next half term the children in year 4 will be working in teams on the Fiver challenge. I am sure they have mentioned this to you but I thought I would let you know what it is all about.

Each group of children will be given a five pound note from Virgin Money to begin their business. They will need to think about what they would like to sell (we have discussed lots of things, from car washes to cake sales and even a photo booth!). They will then need to decide on a company name and logo before advertising their services to the public. As this event is happening through school we will hold sales throughout the school day as well as inviting the children to attend Church on a Sunday to interest any local parishioners.

All we have to do is return the £5 to Virgin Money and the rest is ours to spend how ever the children decide.

To start this process, we invited a group of people from Young Enterprise to come in and teach the children all the skills they will need. It was clear that we have lots of excellent skills in year 4. The children had a great time buying and selling the bracelets and particularly enjoyed counting the money they made at the end(even though it wasn't real!).

I am sure they will succeed at this challenge and look forward to working with them on it!

The children have really enjoyed researching all about volcanoes this week. All this information will be presented in a report.

What an exciting first week back after our Easter break. Ten Ten Theatre came in to do a performance called The Gift. All the children in Year 4 loved this and afterwards the children created freeze frames to show giving and receiving gifts. Also this week the children have been looking at measuring in Maths. They worked well in teams to complete their own investigation.

I hope you all have a lovely Easter break. Homework books will be handed back out on the first day back. If you would like to get ahead, here is the homework grid for next half term. Happy Easter Everyone

During this time of Lent, St Joseph's always raises money for St. Joseph's Penny. All the children were excited to be involved in the egg roll competition. Lets hope we, in Year 4, can raise as much money as possible. Well done everyone for taking part.

As an end of term trest, the children took part in a Maths trail around the playground. They were working together to answer word problems. Everyone always works hard and they showed that today. I am so proud of every child in Year 4

World Book day was a huge success in Year 4. All the children made a huge effort with their costumes and enjoyed the book related tasks set out for them.

Spring Two Homework Grid

Last half term our history topic was Ancient Egypt. All the children enjoyed this topic, especially making mummies out of toilet roll (a lot of laughs were had by all!)

Year 4 had a wonderful time acting out our class reader, The Lost Happy Endings. We have some future actors and actresses in our class.

We had some wonderful homework brought in last half term. It looked like the children really enjoyed making rice crispie cakes as much as I enjoyed eating them!

Spring One Homework Grid

We have come to the end of a very busy half term. Here are some of the highlights. The children have all worked really hard and deserve some time off. Make sure you enjoy your time off but stay safe.

Last week we had some special visitors in school. They worked with the children to create a wonderful willow dome and dry willow sculptures. All the children took part and enjoyed seeing the finished products. All we have to do now is wait for it to start growing.

Autumn 2 Homework Grid

In Year 4 we have been looking at instructions. The children enjoyed following instructions to make fruit lollies. They enjoyed eating them more though! We then wrote our own instructions based on our Dragons topic.

The whole school enjoyed learning about different religions on World Religion Day in school. Year 4 looked at Islam. We noticed that there are many similarities between Christianity and Islam. The children had lots of fun.

On our last day before the well earned half term holiday, Year 4 enjoyed a maths lesson outside. Look at all the faces of concentration.

Year 4 enjoyed some practical maths this week. The children were allowed to play with playdough and straws to make 3D shapes.

This half term Year 4 have worked hard on their homework tasks

Homework is VERY important to us at St Joseph's!

·         Spellings must be practiced and learned ready for testing on Fridays

·         One piece of homework at least is due on Wednesdays. You will find the homework grid on this page if you need it

·         Reading every night is essential… and don’t forget to get your reading record signed!

·         Once you have read a book, complete an Accelerated Reader Quiz and choose another book. Why not complete a quiz at home and show your parents all of the books you have read!

Celebration Assembly

Every Friday we gather to celebrate children’s achievements across the school. I will put up a list of children who have been chosen on this page each week. Also, have a look at our successes on the school awards tree in the reception area of school!
