Some important information:

  • Children are expected to read every day so please sign their reading record (I will check this every day).
  • Homework books will be given out on a Friday and homework is due on Wednesday.
  • Children will be given spellings every week. The test will take place on a Wednesday and new spellings will be given.
  • Each week the children will have a different times table to learn.
  • PE will take place on Wednesday. All children will need black shorts, a red tshirt and black pumps or trainers.

It is important that these tasks are completed each week to ensure that the children get the most out of Year 4. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Miss Chappell

Some of you may have noticed that we no longer have access to Conquer Maths at school. In order to help your children reach their full potential in maths, I have provided links to some useful maths websites. These websites encourage children to explore maths through games and problem solving.

As incentive, the children will be given a raffle ticket into our end of term class raffle if they go on one of these sites. Simply write in their reading records and I will make sure they get their ticket!

Work of the week/ Child of the week

A fantastic day had by all. Our annual egg roll was a huge success again this year. Thank you to all the sponsors and parents who came to show their support!

I am so impressed with the designs that have been flooding into my classroom. We have seen everything from the wonderful Egg Sheeran to the monsters from Monster Inc and even the entire Super Mario race track. Thank you to all children who took part (and the adults for helping). The winner from each year group will be announced soon and prizes will be given out during assembly on Thursday.

Year 4 and Nursery had a fantastic time yesterday collecting litter from our playground (you would not believe the amount they collected!)

As you may already know, this year we held a sponsored read on World Book Day. The children were raising money for poorly children in hospital (and also helping school to get some new books!). We have already had lots of donations brought in but there is still time if you would like to donate (remember, EVERY LITTLE HELPS!). Just bring some money into school with your sponsor form and I will do the rest.

World Book Day was a huge success this year. Thank you to all the parents for the wonderful costumes. Year 4 read an incredible 125 books that day between them!!

Year 4 had a wonderful time at the museum last week. They learnt a lot about Asru the mummy and showed the lady how much they already know. I am extremely proud of all of them! Hopefully our pyramid building time of 1.18 min will be enough for us to win the prize!

We have had a fun couple of weeks in school, creating calendars, Christmas cards and our special baubles. I hope the children get some well deserved rest and come back to us fresh in January. I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Here is our homework grid for after Christmas!

Everyone had a fantastic time at the BBC Christmas party yesterday. There was lots of glitter and laughter from all (especially Miss Chappell!!)

Children in Need day was filled with lots of lovely activities for Year 4. First a trip to the cinema, then ice cream and finally decorating gingerbread men in the style of Pudsey Bear. Lots of fun was had by all, including myself!

Autumn Two Homework Grid

Year 4 had fun today in maths. We worked in groups to answer word problems that were hidden around the school.

We had fun this week making Roman shields in History. The children are really beginning to work well in teams.

The BBC came in on Wednesday to show the children some brand new TV programs and games. All the children joined in with the discussions and showed our visitors just how wonderful they all are. We definitely have some computer programmers among us!

A great start to the homework this year. Well done Year 4! I look forward to seeing what else you have planned.

As a class we went to Mass this morning. I was very impressed with the children's attitudes and particularly their wonderful singing. Keep it up Year 4!
